There is so much about the world of olfaction that we are yet to understand. We know that fragrance holds an immense emotional power and that the fastest route into the centres for memory and emotion in the brain is through the nose. We also know that fragrance is an inherent part of culture, having held a central place in the rituals of civilizations for thousands of years. What we are yet to understand though, is how scent holds such magnetism and how it plays such a key role in the laws of attraction.

Could it be pheromones? Perhaps, but the science isn’t there yet. Maybe it’s a different kind of biology that we aren’t conscious of – something feral and primal deep within our subconscious. Whatever the physiological reason, we do know that the power of fragrance lies in its ability to draw people in. It’s the thing that gets someone to follow you on the street and ask what you’re wearing. It’s the remnant left on a pillow. It’s the calling card that people remember you by. But without you, it has no power.

You see, fragrance is not a static object that simply sits on the skin. It’s a living, breathing, amorphous element that clings to, morphs on, and projects from the skin. Wearing a fragrance is like draping yourself in a cloak. Whatever the fabric or colour, it contours itself to the form of the individual, emphasising their shape. The fragrance becomes an extension of the self – an olfactory signature that moves with the wearer, communicating something entirely individual to the world. It becomes a marker of identity, inseparable from the person who wears it.

But this is not magic. Fragrance cannot conjure attraction where none exists. It can only amplify what is already there – heightening the qualities that draw us towards one another and intensifying the impulse to move closer. Personality, presence and style may create the initial pull; fragrance becomes part of the chemistry that follows. It represents the unspoken electricity between people – a softly moving sense of tension that cannot be consciously quantified or explained, yet is undeniably present.

Attraction is more than simply a magnetising factor that draws people in. Attraction is the unspoken element of curiosity that comes when your personality sparks interest. It’s a fusion of your confidence, emotional intelligence, kindness, and humour, brought to the forefront. This invisible exchange happens between people every moment of every day. Scent cannot create this, but it can communicate it.

There is chemistry involved here. An invisible, molecular dialogue between the materials of a fragrance and the composition of our skin. Amongst many other things, there’s DNA and pH at play. A fragrance is not alive until it encounters skin and how it reacts with the skin, and ultimately how it smells, will depend on who wears it. You and I can wear the same fragrance, yet the message it sends out to the world will be entirely different because by our very nature we are different.

For two decades Escentric Molecules has disrupted the very foundations of perfumery by exploring the symbiotic relationship between scent, skin and identity, harnessing this undefinable force field of attraction.

The creation of Molecule 01 and Escentric 01 marked a shift in the atmosphere, where fragrance moved away from trying to evoke the beauty of nature and instead, unlocked the mystery found in attraction. Molecule 01 bottled a single aroma-molecule (the velvety, blanketing, skin-like Iso E Super) and because it wasn’t a traditional fragrance, it didn’t wear like one. Instead, it worked like a hologram, projecting the individual beauty of the wearer out into the world, allowing them to be seen in a new way.

The shapeshifting nature of Molecule 01 has always been its power. On one person it can be soft, comforting and intimate, whilst on another it can be expansive, electric and carnal. How it is perceived depends both on the wearer and the person smelling it. It’s the very nature of individuality that allows it to create a unique chemistry for each person, transforming something that is a singular and a constant into something distinctly bespoke.

In 2026, this idea of a powerful, invisible presence has never been more relevant. After the pandemic, where we all were encouraged to hide away and to distance ourselves from each other, we have found a desire to project. To be bigger than we are – to enhance ourselves by taking up olfactory space. People now see fragrance less as an accessory and more of a statement. Fragrance is now a marker that projects an idea to the world of who we are and who we want to be, amplifying all that we are so that it can be perceived by others. It’s also a way for us to connect with each other.

We used to call this sillage but the conversation has moved on from the simple concept of projection. Instead, we talk about the aura of fragrance, the emotion and identity it conveys, and how we maximise this through power and projection. This “auramaxxing” goes beyond the idea of performance and how maximalist or perceptible a scent may be, into the complex messaging that we’re trying to convey.

Over the last 20 years, Escentric Molecules has continued to explore the idea of olfactory force fields in new forms. Starting with Iso E Super but moving into other aroma-molecules, presenting them in isolation and more traditionally in their Escentric forms. A further extension of the concept has been Molecule +, which approaches the work with a new perspective, exploring the interplay between two materials. Each represents the inherent link between chemistry and biology, where the molecules in one can enhance the cells in the other. They are the compounds of attraction and magnetism.

They are the fragrant force fields that move between us.
